2 separate serious motorcycle crashes on E. Iliff Ave. 1 Fatal, 1 with serious injury 01/25/15

01/25/15 Aurora, CO – East Iliff Ave. was snarled for hours this evening near I-225 as Aurora Police investigated 2 separate and serious motorcycle accidents including one that killed a bike rider.  Aurora Police and Fire were called around 5PM on this date to the intersection of E. Iliff Ave. and S. Blackhawk street on a report of a motorcycle vs. car accident.  Aurora Fire Rescue arrived promptly on the scene as Station 7 is located right next door and discovered a downed motorcycle rider and several injured people in a sedan.  The bike rider was pronounced dead at the scene and four occupants of the sedan were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Aurora Police say witnesses to the crash say that the bike was traveling east on Iliff at a high rate of speed when it struck the right passenger side of the sedan which was westbound on Iliff and turning left on S. Blackhawk St.  The motorcycle rider was projected onto the street where he died.  Police say excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.  The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmut at the time of the crash.
